Pastor Donald E. Garrett Jr.
Rev. Donald E. Garrett Jr. is a native of
Alpine, Alabama to the union of Donald Sr. & Erlene. He received his
High School education at Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School, and
it was during that time that he advanced in his career by taking courses at
Temple Bible College. He obtained his High School certificate of diplomacy in
the year 2004.
Pastor Garrett accepted the calling of preaching the gospel at 14 years of age.
He delivered his first message on July 9, 2000 and received his license to
preach under the pastoralship of Rev. Mark A. Toney. Pastor Garrett served
under the leadership of Pastor Toney and the New Unity Baptist Church family
until he was called to be the Youth Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church under the
direction of Rev. Dr. James R. Chisley. After a short season
there, he was called to Union Baptist Church to serve as the Minister of Youth
under the toolidge of Rev. Dr. Orlando B. Yates. In February 2010, Pastor
Garrett was ordained as a minister of the gospel with his Union Baptist Church
family and a host of family and friends as proclaiming witnesses. His current
goal is to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education and
Leadership. August 28, 2011 on the 4th Sunday of the month, Rev. Garrett
was called to Pastor The historical First Baptist Church of Hazelwood and
installed as Pastor September 25, 2011. Since called, Pastor Garrett has
successfully restarted Sunday School and Bible Study. Also under Pastor Garrett
the church started the Hazelwood Walk Ministry and currently under construction
is the Food Pantry Ministry.
On September 1, 2012 Reverend Garrett was
united in Holy Matrimony to Lady Erica R. Garrett. Pastor and Lady
Garrett has dedicated themselves to the work and ministry of the church.
Lady Garrett has been instrumental in developing ministry events and bring many
ideas to the church and Hazelwood is excited to see the move of God using this
power couple ordained to serve in this present age.
Pastor Garret says, “As long as I live I will
serve the Lord no matter where I am led to do so. I am called to lead and
called to serve in this present age, and God has been with me every step of the
way. I am God’s masterpiece and He’s not finished with me yet.” His
favorite scripture is Psalms 34:1 “I will bless the lord at all times, and his
praises shall continually be in my mouth. The steps of a good man are ordered
by the LORD: and he delighteth in His way.
